Mss.: Angabe von 53 Mss. bei Thomson (1940), 61f.
Ed.: Funk, F. X./Diekamp, F.: Patres apostolici, Tübingen ²1901, ³1913, Bd. 2, 318-322.
Autorschaft:
- Von Thomson (1940), 59-61, R. zugeschrieben.
- Nach Scharpe (1997) aber zweifelhaft: "Thomson maintains that the translation of the ps. Ignatian letters is Grosseteste's, since it is so ascribed in Tours, MS 247 (s. xiii), fol. 484, 'Has epistulas transtulit de greco in latiunum magister Robertus Grossatesta Linconiensis episcopus'; but Diekamp, 2. lvi, points out that these four spurious letters 'non e graeco versae sed latine confectae sint'. ... Archbishop Ussher (1642) and Bishop Lightfoot (1889) had earlier argued that Grosseteste was the 13th-cent. translator of the genuine letters of Ignatius (...), first attested in his citations and known only from English copies. This case is much stronger than that concerning the suprious letters to St. John and the Blessed Virgin." [Sharpe (1997), 547.]
